My First Computer Build! 24/05/15

I built my first computer last night, I started at 20:20 and finished at 23:15 (Including salvaging parts from old rig), I don't want any flack for the parts I used I don't really care what's better to be honest. Anyway, here it is. Apart from cabling pretty good for a 14 year old.

--May be some rotation issues on a couple images--

--The first image was taken at 16:00--

--The last image is the salvage pc--

First of all, let me  let me introduce myself, my name is Aleksandar Prokic and im from Serbia/Belgrade, and as most of you here on forum i am the typical PC  enthusiast dude,  engough about me, let`s get to the point.

Here we are, after a long time I decided to finally start with my mod.
The basic idea has not changed much since my original plan but the concept was jumping back and forth,
from idea of a hanging shelves to old fashioned radio etc.
Of course, money has always played a major role in my decision, so i thought that must be something that is in my sphere of possibilities.
Unfortunately I can't show you the drawing because my lack of experience in programs suitable for that purposes, I tried but was not happy with quality of project.
Anyway, my main plan is to pack everything together in cooler master test bench combined with a plexiglass, while the radiator, reservoir and pump will be nailed on the wall.
The idea is still in my head and I'm sure it will be clearer to you as soon as it progressed.

For now I'm using the following with possible changes :

MB  : Asus Rampage IV Extreme 2011
CPU  :  Intel I7 3820 (with possible changes)
GPU  : GTX 970 (depending on the finance, it will be under water or in other case painted )
Cooler  : Phobya 360lt (Тhanks to my good friend Micri)
RAM  : 8х???
PSU  : Coolermaster M2 Silent 850
Case: Coolermaster Test bench V1
Light  : NXZT Red sleeved led

I would like now on bare beginning to mention that this is going to be slow progress mode because the time and money will make conditions to me and my project.
The deadline I've set to myself is first part of August.

Now, I'd like to show you the direction.
Red color will be dominated with   the symbol of axe (of course)
The plan is to close front part of bench with matte black plexi glass as in the middle part of bench (plexiglass) will stand red hatchet which will be with red LED.
I've ordered   dark red paracord for sleeving power and it will be here in a few days, and plan is to do a sleeve for this semi modular Coolermaster Silent M2 850th

And for the last, let me show you some pictures:

Coolermaster Test Bench V1 before sandblsting and colour coating :
And some photos after SB and Color coating :

few photos of Motherboard :

Wall hanging done!
My wall now have four more holes with screws for reservoir and radiator. I'm still waiting water blocks for RAM and GPU in order to install tubes.
For now I'm satisfied how everything turned out as well with my cleaning skills after dirty work was done :)
I also put some rubber piece under the radiator to avoid wall damage, with possibility for interspace adjustment.
Next week is reserved for cutting and engraving plexiglass.

Marking

Mounting

And support from my cat :)

Sleeving started!

I'll let the pictures speak

pump mounted
Phobya fans before sleeving :

Fans afther sleev :

Last night I got fans, today I did a pump , as you can see I did not like the color of connectors , so I decided to replace all of them.
Today I ordered 3 more so that I could replace those on ventilators.

And my first 24pin Sleeve is finished.
At the beginning I was a bit problematic , but later when I went settled down very easily.
This weekend I plan to go on and finish the sleeving . Here are a few photos .

Тооls
 24pin for now
And fullshot

The postman came today , and brought something nice of course it`s my GTX 970! :)
Now i am chaising the gpu block, and waiting for the rest of the components.

Big regards,
Aleksandar.

So, I Should be Receiving a G60VX-RBBX05 On Tuesday, But i has stuff missing in it, (Hard Drive, Memory ETC.) (Dont Worry, Parts are taken care of) But here is the current situtation...

  • Does Not Power On (Suspected, Loose CPU)
  • Has a Centreno CPU (Should Be Getting an upgrade soon but don't have the money to afford it right now) (looking to maybe upgrade to a QX9300)
  • Testing Needs To Be Done, If Turns To Be A Motherboard Problem, It is Covered, I Have Already Ordered a Motherboard For it...

Overall, I say i think for nearly $200 i think it may work again, (That is just all depended if the motherboard i purchased works...  )

This was all mostly purchased thru eBay anyway, But most of this stuff i look at pictures very clearly, Just to see if anything could be suspected wrong!

I will post updates through out the Next week to see if it turns to be a motherboard problem, Wish me Luck!  ^_^

Li'l HP

Ok, so I have my HP Elite 8000 low profile. Specs:

2.9GHz E7500 Core 2 - Overclockable in SetFSB

Radeon X1300 modified to be passive

HP whatever motherboard

240w 80+ stock weird form factor PSU

dual 160GB drives

DVDRW

1x 4GB PNY 1333MHz DDR3 (All the extra desktop DDR3 I had.)

ONE fan to cool the whole thing. Never had a CPU fan, took out PSU fan, replaced GPU fan with bigger heatsink, etc. And it works perfectly fine even being under load for days. Dead quiet.

It's just a bit of a project of mine. Might be throwing in my cheapo 64GB Corsair SSD if I can get it to play nice with Win 7 on it. So, yea, just the front intake to cool down the whole system. It runs fairly hot, but it doesn't overheat and it stays very quiet. I haven't experimented much with CPU overclocking yet, but I have hit 3.3GHz+ so far. Anyway, I bought an XFX 6790 with issues that I'm hoping I can fix for $15. If I can't fix it I will resell the card and try another. If I can I'll be hacking it into this HP. (I also bought a PCIE riser to stick it in sideways.) I'll have to figure out power delivery.

Shit. Just saw it takes two 6 pins, not one. I guess using the stock PSU is out of the question now. Damn. I bet an SFX PSU would fit nicely.. The mobo alone requires a 6 pin and a 4 pin, although I doubt the 6 pin is actually necessary since I think it's just a passthrough to the drive power connectors which plug into a mobo 6 pin instead of the PSU. Whaddya think?

EDIT: There's no way the card will fit with the CPU heatsink. I did not think this through. I'll be needing a stubby card. GTX 750/650TI HERE I COME. EDIT: Damn, that's right. There's a low profile 750 ti...

PC Project: The 440th Dalmatian

the440thdalmatianprojectpic.jpg

So! I have been waiting for a long time to do this!

Finally, having done my research and having grown an obsession with the system I am about to build..

It might just be the time to actually build it, right?

The parts I've chosen are:

buildfianl.png

The build will be called: The 440th Dalmatian,

because of the coloring theme being black / white and the case I am using, being the NXTX H440

As you can, or probably can't see, on the part list there is no case chosen. Why is that though?

WELL... BECAUSE IT'S ALREADY HOME! :D

11351390_815617295180787_2570244223107026105_n.jpg

I have also received some of the cable extensions I will be using, and OH BOY, those are some good ones. Bitfenix is a quality company and I have got to know that throughout the years.

cableextensions.jpg

Looking nice and clean! My only concern right now is cable management and how am going to fit all those cables along with their extensions on a case that has not that much clearence back because of the material it uses to keep it silent. But I will manage :)

Nothing else has arrived home as of today, and will probably take for every part to arrive around a week or two, considering the fact that everything is purchased from Germany, and I live in Greece.

I am really Hyped, I can't wait to get them parts, paint that GTX 970 white and stick some Bitfenix Alchemy led strips to show off that killer interior.

So, If you want to follow along you are welcome to join the journey to building this machine, which by the way is going to be evolving every day and sometime later this year I will be adding a second 970.

That's all for now, but before I hop outta here I just wanna give credi to @1Scotty1 for being awesome and answering my questions, as actually being the one that made me buy the NZXT H440, over the Enthoo Pro, which I believe was a solid choice!

Hope to see you around. Expect updates very soon guys!

ULTIMATE Scrapyard/donor Gaming Rig

$

Yes, I know, comic sans...

Finally a PC owner/gamer lol

The Goal:

After scrapyard wars was released I issued a sort of challenge to my self: build the best possible gaming rig (yes you read that right: GAMING) for $100 or less out of unwanted parts that people were throwing out.  Yes, it's crazy, I had no idea I'd get as far as I did, but luckily I live in a neighborhood where people were getting rid of pretty "decent" hardware.

The Hardware:

Now for the exciting stuff (IMO at least)...  After picking up around 4+ old systems and some unwanted parts I had enough parts to assemble what I thought would be a decent system.  Parts are as follows:

CPU: Q8200 @ stock for now; I got this out of an upgraded core 2 duo HP system.

Motherboard(s) HP random 775 motherboard from the HP system I got.  Later I purchased an ASUS P5E deluxe on Ebay for $64.

RAM: 2x4gb DDR2; half OCZ "SLI Ready" and other half Samsung generic.  Got these from the upgraded HP and a Dell respectively.

Cooler/Fans: Xigmatek 1283 with a 140mm NOCTUA FAN! (awww yeah    :D )  Got the Xigmatek from a neighbor who didn't need it (all his stuff's 2011-v3 lol) and the Noctua fan from a neighbor who bought it for a system I built for him; the fan didn't fit however and he never got around to returning it, so he gave it to me    :D.

Storage: 320gb WD "Apple certified" (IDK) 5400rpm HDD.  Got this from an old ~2007 iMac.  Not much but it gets the job done.

GPU(s): Oh yes the exciting part...  First off I'm running "dual" (not SLI/crossfire) GPU's because no integrated graphics (as far as I know) on X48.  Is it really necessary?  No, but I wanted to take the load of driving an auxiliary monitor off my EVGA 750ti (yeah you heard that right; explanation in a second) and instead have my HD5450 drive it.  Also Ubuntu doesn't like outputting from my Geforce card for the setup process; IDK.  Anyway, I got the GTX 750ti for helping that neighbor build his PC.  A few weeks ago I upgraded his GPU to a 960 (pls staph 280 fans; 960 was on sale for 170 on super biiz and cheapest 280 was ~210) and he didn't need his 750ti anymore.  I told him he could just sell it but he said that instead I could have it as "payment" for building and servicing his PC's over the last year or so.  I got the HD 5450 from another old Dell BTW.

Case: This build sat running on an old mobo box for a good 2 weeks; eventually I tried putting it in my Cooler Master Centurion 5, but for whatever reason the standoffs didn't line up so I couldn't do that.  As of this last Saturday, my system resides in a NZXT S340, purchased new at Fry's for $69.99 (yes I know I just exceeded my budget but the case was cosmetic, so I'm not really counting it).

PSU: Got a Cooler Master 550w PSU from that upgraded HP I was talking about earlier.  Not 80+ or anything, but it's non-OEM and reliable.

Extras:  Lots of extra's lol...  For audio (P5E doesn't have onboard audio) I have an Asus Supreme FXII (came with P5E) and an old SoundBlaster Live from a Dell Dimension 4000 (only used as a gameport adapter for my retro joystick).  On top of that I have some crappy D-Link wireless g adapter ( ._. ) from an ancient (relatively) AMD HP system and sometime later this week a PCIe 1x to internal USB 3.0 header adapter so I can use the front panel USB 3.0 ports.

Initial Validation of Parts Used/Test bench:

Not a ton to say here: everything went smoothly with the exception of the HP mobo not liking new CPU fans.  Hi res (or not, silly iPod camera) pictures inbound:

Test bench running on the HP motherboard and a stock heatsink:

IMG_2004.JPG

With the Xigmatek 1283 and the 750ti:

FullSizeRender.jpg

Running on the Asus P5E Deluxe:

FullSizeRender-1.jpg

Build Process:

Again not much to say.  Installing the system in the S340 was a breeze. Too excited to take photos RIP :/

OS and driver installation/mini rant on windows 10 installer:

Definitely the most tedious part of the build process... First off I tried installing Ubuntu but is was being stupid about not being able to reach the server for "getting additional 32bit libraries" to run steam and was a real pain in the ass, so I switched to windows 10 technical preview. TL:DR installer sucks, setup sucks, and I'm an idiot for installing the 32bit version by accident and then wondering why windows said I only had 3gb ram...  Anyways, I finally got it running and all; decent performance in games I play.  More information on that below though.

Results:

Finished Interior:

P1000553.JPG

Desktop (running Minecraft with ultra shaders):

P1000564.JPG

The only game I really tested was Minecraft (modded of course).  Running over 1gb in texture packs along with ~30 mods and "Ultra" shaders I was getting a constant 40-60 FPS (very surprising considering how taking ultra shaders are)  Currently I haven't bothered testing anything from my steam library (not too interested in trying to download 10gb+ files over wireless G)

Future Plans:

This build was a lot of fun for sure.  If I'd stuck with no case and the HP mobo this would have been a $0 budget system, and even if I had gotten the used 750ti free I still could have hovered around the $100 budget point by buying a used 750ti or equivalent on Ebay.  I think it's safe to say "goal accomplished".  If I do anything to the system in the future it will just be adding lightning to the interior and potentially painting some components.

This Build is going to be focused mainly around the color red with orange/yellow also being featured.  My powersupply came FULLY un sleeved with not even any black coating whatsoever. This leaves the red, orange, and yellow cables fully shown and can add a unique look to the build. I have gotten a Bitfenix Prodigy M that is red and will have a massive window and also my Asus Direct CU ii 760 and Rampage IV Gene are red and black. The case comes with a red led fan and the WD Black Squared has gold detailing which will highlight the build well.

Welcome!

Introduction
Hey , I will now present my project by the name Temptation . As you here will be able to follow from beginning to end . Have had this project in my brain for about a year , has also nearly always wanted to build a really big build and now it's finally here. Having just finished my first project which was mid-tower so I thought to do a little larger building . I dont have buy all the parts for this porject yet because I am waiting for a response from sponsors.

Computer
Have some plans to build in a Silverstone TJ07 , but before I decide it so I wait for the response from some sponsors. Color theme will be orange , gray and black. The color was a bit different but I like the colors anyway. The water cooling will be the largest part of the project where I have a 480mm radiator and 2 reservoirs, which I 'll try to get into the case, then i also have 2x GPU and a CPU who  will be watercooled . I will also make some mods with the cas for example: Midplate in acrylic, remove the hardrivecase and much more

Hello to all boys, here I am back with a new project, very different from my standard made-scale "reduced"
as the PSPC (computer inside a PS1) and the newcomer, the cub8 (mini-ITX case that I upset the inside to mount a 240mm AIO).
I also take this opportunity to say that the project will take inspiration from my current PC, to which I gave a touch of elegance that was missing, Kathrine.

TfT, the name of the new project, to which the name refers to the two "towers" on the sides of the case.

Here are some render illustrating what I want to do.

Origami

An In Win S-Frame project

By MetallicAcid

Hello everybody, and welcome to yet another of my modded projects! I would like to introduce you to my project named "Origami" which features the exclusive In Win S-Frame chassis.

The name Origami is inspired by the way this single 2m long, 4mm thick aluminium plate has been folded 15 times to give this unique chassis it's form. There is no floor or roof, and tempered glass panels which really set this chassis aside from most all other PC enclosures on the market today. I felt that I would take on the challenge of modding this chassis to enhance it's design in typical MetallicAcid style, complete with brushed aluminium panels, and a full custom water cooled loop with chromed copper tubing.

Definition of "Origami" according to Dictionary.com:
[awr-i-gah-mee]
noun, plural origamis for 2.
The traditional Japanese art or technique of folding paper into a variety of
decorative or representational forms, as of animals or flowers.

Introduction
Hi everyone! First build log here, and first one in English!
I have been building computers for 12 years. Always doing small projects and modifications, but never paid attention to looks, only fuction.
I used to work as a web designer and UX developer, but last summer i quit, fed up with a desk job.
However, the urge to create hit me this spring and here i am, posting my second build log in a couple of months!
You can view my first log over at sweclockers.com (in swedish!) Log - Gallery.

This time the theme is Exclusivity, performance, industrial and aluminium. The case is a Cooltek W2 Silver (Jonsbo). I will go at it hard, doing modifications both internal and external!
Did i mention Exclusive? Yeah, plastic is not that exclusive is it? I will have to change that...
I don't know all the hardware just yet, depends on sponsors...

Components
Case: Cooltek W2.
Motherboard: TBA.
CPU: TBA.
GPU: TBA.
RAM: TBA.
PSU: Evga G2 750W.
SSD/HDD: TBA.
Cooling: TBA.

Planed mods
* Cut out in the front panel for greater airflow - will require Laser or water cutting.
* If possible, cover the i/o on the side, put start button at the top of the case.
* Cover fans and/or radiators with aluminnium (black).
* Place SSD's so that they are visible through the side panel.
* Remove HDD/ODD in the right chamber.
* Cover up the right chamber in aluminium (black).
* Surprice mod...!
* Simple mods to improv air output/intake in the back and bottom.
And then the usual remove paint/repaint the components to match the build.

Let's do this, join me!

Beast 2.0

Howdy, my name is Mark, I built my current rig that I am sat at right now, work on Beast 2.0 has begun.

Beast 1.0 has the following spec:

CPU: i7 3770k @ 4.4GHz

COOLER: Corsair H100

MOBO: Asus ROG Maximus V Gene

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance

SSD: Revodrive 3 x2 (1.5GB/s read, 1.2GB/s write)

HDD: 3TB Barracuda XT 3.5"

GPU: Geforce GTX 690

AUDIO: Onboard chipset

MONITOR: ProLite G2773HS

CASE: Obsidian Series® 550D Mid-Tower

The above rig is being retired from gaming duties and is now reporting for duty as my Home Server for Plex, Cloud, family Intranet, Torrentbox, amongst other things.

Beast 2.0 will have the following specs:

CPU: i7 4790K (Overclock TBD)

COOLER: H100i GTX (with Noctua Industrial PPC fans 3k RPM)

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum rated, fully modular - with Cablemod C-series cable replacements.

MOBO: Asus ROG Maximus VII Ranger Z97

RAM: 32GB G.Skill Sniper (16GB to be used, other 16GB to be used as a RAMdisk as a scratch disk for various apps, run minecraft from etc)

SSD: Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD (As high as 2.15GB/s read and 1.4 GB/s write) via a PCIe M.2 adapter card.

SSD2: 1TB Samsung 850 EVO Sata 3

HDD: No HDD, that is going to remain in Beast 1.0 relegated to Home Server duty.

GPU: Re-using the GTX 690 for now, will upgrade to 980 ti once good OC / nice custom cooler is out.

AUDIO: PCIe Xonar DX

SPEAKERS: Corsair CA-SP211UK SP2500 Gaming 2.1 Speaker System

MONITOR: Acer 27” XB270HU Predator 1440p, 144Hz IPS Panel (Gonna need a mini display port cable to run it with the GTX 690)

CASE: Corsair Vengeance C70 Gunmetal Black edition

FANS: A mix of the nice looking Noctua Industrial PPC series (2x 3000 RPM for the H100i in pull only configuration).

OPTICAL: Pioneer BDR-209DBK 16x SATA Internal BD/DVD/CD Burner (About time I did an upgrade really)

This will be the new daily driver for gaming, Photoshop, any video editing or otherwise beefy programs needed.

STAGE 1 (COMPLETE):

First up, the case itself. The first thing I did is I removed the two HDD cages and the bottom support to open up the airflow. At first I mounted a pair of Corsair fans I had lying around that were planned to go in Beast 1.0 before I found the black Noctua's (just ordered those). I had to drill slightly larger fan mounting holes to connect these in the front bezel (for some reason the screws that came with the AF120 fans wouldn't fit). Also had some rubber washers lying around so used those (unsure if I can re-use those when I switch them out for the Noctuas). Other than that, there has been no modification to the C70.

I have already placed the PSU within the unit and stuck the powered by corsair logo on it's top (I hate putting stickers on the outside frame, looks tacky to me).

Once I get the Noctua fans and when Overclockers gets those nice Cablemod C-series Black/Red back in stock I can continue the build and make some more progress. In the meantime though I am going to paint my optical drive as the stark gray irritates my OCD in regards to the colour scheme of the build (black and red) I will also likely paint the rubber anti-vibration corners on the noctuas red so they fit as well.

For now this is all. Looking forward to the nightmare that will be cable management, my OCD will certainly not let me get away with a lackluster job there.

More to follow when progress is made.
