Free gaming PC for a friend

Hi everyone!

I've put together this little rig for a friend who is currently at uni. He'll be finishing soon with little to no money, but really wants to get into PC gaming with me. I had a few bits left over from previous builds, either because I didn't like them or just never got around to using them, so made a bit of a Frankenstein.

And here it is...

  • Intel E6600
  • MSI R7850
  • Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2L
  • 4GB of Kingston 1066 DDR2
  • WD Green 1TB hard drive
  • Corsair CX600
  •  Antec Kulher 620
  • Fractal design core 1000
  • Windows 8.1

It does run some games on low settings ok, but I really need to boost this up to decent performance in most games if I can.

I think I just need a Q6600 and an SSD to get it going, but my mobo might hold be back. The max ram speed is 667mhz, so it bottle necks my ram, and it's only sata II. Would it be worth spending the extra money on a better mobo?

If so, any suggestions please? I can seem to find much that 775 and has support for the 1066 ram and sata III in the UK

Cheers!

Tim
