Hello!

Hello!
Well, I fist put this system together in early 2013, in that time she has had a whole cup of tea down the top grille while running, been the only thing to survive a massive power surge in my house and she has been the most stable, reliable and robust PC I have ever used, never mind owned!
Anyway - to the build!
When I first built my rig the parts were:
CPU: I7 3770k
Cooler: H80i
Mobo: ASUS P8 Z77 - V
RAM: 2x Corsair 4Gb sticks @1600 MHz
GPU: MSI 660Ti PE 2Gb
PSU: Corsair HX 750 (I will keep this PSU forever, I love it so much!)
Case: Corsair 650d (that one with the large open grille at the top....)
SSD: Sandisk Extreme 128Gb (it was cheap okay?!)
HDD: WD Blue 1TB
After building her I decided to see how I had fared on the silicone lottery, and to my delight everything in the system overclocked like a champ! The CPU can hit 5.1Ghz with 1.42V if the room is cool enough and the GPU can hit 3.7Ghz on the memory and I have only ever bothered to take the GPU to 1250MHz as the memory clock on the 660Ti has much more of an effect, thanks to its restricted mem bus.
Although I down clocked the CPU back to 4.5Ghz as I actually want it to last a good while! Like this I happily ran games mostly maxed out at 60 FPS with no problem for around 2 years until 2 weeks ago, where I decided I had saved up enough to make a couple of upgrades... So with (some) cash on the hip, I got myself another 2 Gb sticks of RAM, although I decided I wanted to have a bit of lighting on the board so I went for the crucial Balistix Tracer Orange/Blue kit. and as you may guess, it took a fair bit of messing around to actually get the pc to boot as my 2 sets of ram were running with different timings and clock speeds, but an hour, and some sloppy timings later she was back to her usual stable self! So, what next? Well I decided that a bit more GPU horsepower is never a bad thing, but I was stuck with a hard decision.... I could either get another 660Ti from MSI (OCD - THEY MUST LOOK THE SAME!) and have around the same performance as a 970, for £80 (around $120) but get stuck the 2Gb V-RAM or spend the extra money (which I don't really have!) on a 970. After some research I decided to go the cheaper option and SLI my current card - also I was interested to have a go because I have never ran 2 cards before! Once the card was in, I found that the factory overclock from msi was too much, but -20MHz later the card was sorted, also to make up for this, the memory also Oc's well
I have been running a few benchmarks and on many occasions, beating single 970 scores on well optimized titles and also dealing with the extra heat - Glad it's winter here! - I am worried about my video ram limit though ...
Thank you for taking the time to read my story of my PC so far and I plan to update this as I make make any more changes - Hopefully a few years more yet though!
P.S I apologize for the image quality - they were taken in 4K but the file size was obviously far too high - so I have had to re render them in 8 bit...
This is my first system that I've ever built. Stole some parts off an old PC.
Judge my build, cable management, looks, and setup.

I don't know if this qualifies as a build....but...
I've been brushing up on some modding knowledge and such and have come to the conclusion that I should try out some of these things on a "junk" stock system that's currently sitting in my cellar. If everything goes well hopefully I can upgrade the guts of this into a nice light gamer, or something that better suites my needs for budget rendering (yes i said it.)
Since i'm currently a student this may take a much longer time than i'd like. So without further explanation... here's the build/mod explanation.
Current Savings until next component: $30

LONG OVERDUE!
This build was done last year but has had different video cards in it before I found my 770's that I use now so that I was happy GPU wise. So I don't have really any build log. Just pictures and the fact that I spent 5 years on a super snappy AMD Athlon build to have this system and set up I have now. I have had alot of problem with my mom when I was saving up all the money and blew it on building a new computer. But in the end she was happier with it then I was cause she uses it for work when she needs to work from home.
I would like to apologize in advance for the Toaster quality photos I don't own a decent camera so I took them with what I could(Ipod Touch 5th Gen with HDR on)
The old system I used for 5 years(Originally Built January 2010)
New Build came around Febuary 2014 when I had the money:

Note:
1. This is NOT supposed to be a good looking rig, this rig is made for one purpose only as of now: deliver high performance for production work and some gaming at a reasonable price
2. This rig is bound to change at anytime as some of the parts are used or lower quality due to compromises made to fit the budget
Summary:
This is my first custom built computer (though I have owned many brand computers before), this will be used mostly for video editing and production works but occasionally for some gaming. Many of the parts chosen here might get replaced very quickly depending on how fast I can save up on some money.
I'll also be reviewing anything from this build that I was able to buy brand new right on the LTT forum (CPU, Mobo, RAM, XP941, NH-D14 SE2011... etc) if theres anything else that you want to see reviewed from this build, I'll be happy to do so if I have the time.
I'm really hoping to be able to finish this build in time for my birthday (I don't technically have a birthday this year but you get the point... some time in the end of February)
Progress:
22 January 2015:
I just received the RAM, XP941 SSD, the Thunderbolt expansion card, NH-D14 SE2011 and the mouse in the mail, everything seems intact and ok although I have only unboxed the mouse and redeemed the Steam gift card that came with it. I'll be posting a few pictures of them during the weekends. A quick picture of what came inside the box, I'll post a few more detailed, cleaner photos later --- I'll be adding more content and give updates on the build as soon as theres something new ---
I will post benchmarks and temps once the system is up and running.

Hi Folks,
Just built my first computer from scratch.
I owe everything I know to watching endless Linus Tech Tips build guides and really want to thank his team for giving me the confidence to give it a go.
I would say that one thing I have noticed no one mention, which has been a life saver for me, is that a lot of the parts that are in a half hearted shop built computer are easily transferable to a new rig as a place holder for future upgrades. If, like me, you lack patience and a massive dump of money to really glut out on something awesome in one go I would say that there is no good reason to hang around.
I bought my operating system, case, power supply, HDD, motherboard and processor which although not cheap still came to about a third of what my tower once finished will cost. Using the old RAM, graphics card, optical drive and HDD made it very easy for me to start my machine and better yet get a feel for the process itself. Albeit not optimally, the machine works damn near perfectly and it is only because I really want to push the envelope gaming wise that I will need to add anything at all (besides the RAM because fuck 6GB right!).
I would add the caveat however, that I researched endlessly and built a machine with an overall plan in mind.I would not have ploughed on and made poor purchasing decisions to accommodate an outdated processor for example just to speed things along. I also made sure that the old and new parts would be compatible before ripping the old machine to pieces. Like all things in life the hard work should be done in preparation.
It go's without saying that this post will be less than interesting for experienced forum members and I hate to think that I am patronising newbies like myself, but after asking a question and getting a great response back from this community I felt that I should attempt to contribute something. So for all those on here thinking about building for the first time I hope maybe that I have added something useful to your first build experience... and have fun.
Kind regards...
