Upcoming Build, Motherboard Help?

$

So, as a super early Christmas gift a few friends and I are going to buy this PC http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gtw9ZL. already have RAM and a HDD. I want to know what motherboard I should get for this pc for the 4790k (people were having problems with the sabertooth z87). Our theme is Black/White/Blue, any suggestions? Any other criticism is nice. NOTE: The budget for this PC is $1200 with taxes and shipping in total and this is an overkill build.

Help finding old Build Log

So I need your guy's help finding an old build log that I'm sure I saw on this forum

It was a guys LAN rig, and he even had a few pics of it at a LAN. It featured an mATX Asus motherboard, a closed loop liquid cooled CPU, the motherboard was oriented with the I/O facing upwards, and the entire chassis was hand-made out of aluminum. I also (oddly enough) remember that he had a fan controller that was just sort of placed towards the bottom of the unit, and he mentioned that he wanted to find a more ideal place for it. I think it might have also been a featured build log on a WAN show, but I can't quite remember if that's how I found it.

The reason I'm looking for it is that it used a hand-made motherboard shroud, and I'm looking to do something similar for an upcoming build, and wanted to show it to my metal-working buddy so he can get an idea of what I'm looking for.

I also think it had a girl's name, like Elise or something along those lines.

I've been searching for the last few weeks for this build log, but to no avail. My Google-Fu has failed me.

Please help me guys!

Edit: Nevermind guys, in a moment of either pure genius or luck I seem to have found it again. For those who were curious, here's a link.

Carry on!

Project Stealth Boy 2015

Thought I'd throw my hat in the ring with a little build I'd like to call the Stealth Boy. As the old rig will soon pass on to the great PCB in the sky (bubbling on the motherboard), there was a need, and an idea fuel by an unconditional love of Fallout which started many years ago on a Pentium III and whopping 512MB of RAM. The idea is to have silent, LED-less performance. So in order to achieve this we're going with effective but down-geared fans and a custom water cooling loop.

So without further ado: the Stealth Boy:

Case: Corsair c70 Vengeance Gunmetal Black

CPU: Intel i7 4790k

GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti

- ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Formula

RAM: Corsair 16GB (2x8) C10 Low Profile

HDD: Samsung 850 PRO 128GB

- Seagate 2TB SSHD Hybrid

- Seagate 2TB SSHD Hybrid

PSU: Seasonic 860W XP2 Platinum

Fans: Noctua Industrial 2000RPM (non-PWM) x3

Water Cooling:

Pump/Reservoir: Koolance RP-1250 (a failure on my part in planning, with the final build will probably not use even half of the features at best)

CPU: Koolance 380I CPU Waterblock

GPU: EK-FC Titan X GPU Waterblock (Black Acetal Nickel) + EK-FC Titan X GPU Backplate (Black) x2

Fittings: Koolance Black 10mm ID 16mm OD Compression Fittings (including threaded coupling

Radiator: Koolance 2x120mm 30FPI Radiators x2

Tubing: PrimoFlex PrimoChill Clear 10mm ID 16mm OD

Fans: Noctua Industrial 2000RPM (non-PWM) x4

PSU will be accentuated with a black CableMod sleeved cable kit.

The stars align...

All the pieces are here...except the Motherboard. Having possibly held up the build for another 3 weeks after a supplier revision, decided to source it through another store that'll have it here in the next few days. That should give enough time to dig out the lighting booth and the good camera (apologies for the quality). Will post better pictures on the morrow. I hope you enjoy the log!

Buddy wanted a PC so bad to replace his piece of shit laptop. Knew I loved building so he asked me for advise. He told me he wanted to spend 400-500 then somehow boosted the budget to 700 then he texted one day and said 1.2k+. When he said 400-500, I was thinking of a G3258, cheap OC mobo, cheap ram and a used 280X or 290. $700? Possibly some i3, used 280X - 290 range. Told him that if he can bump up to 1.3 it would be perfect. So what did I come up with?!

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($289.99 @ NCIX)
Was thinking of getting him a i5-4460 but he wanted a red motherboard so I told him, get a unlocked
CPU, it'll make most use of the board.

Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($194.99 @ Memory Express)
Wanted it for looks

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($68.99 @ NCIX)
Wanted the Red G.Skill 8GB kit but they didn't have it in-stock + the black actually looked pretty good
so he got that instead.

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($57.99 @ NCIX)
1TB, nothing special

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card  ($259.99 @ NCIX)
Recommended the EVGA one but went with this cuz of the red accents

Case: NZXT H440 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($139.99 @ Memory Express)
Wanted a black and red theme'd build, really liked my case.

Power Supply: Silverstone 500W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply  ($98.99 @ NCIX)
Wanted something silent, didn't care about the cost, just wanted quality parts. One thing about this PSU is that the 24-Pin and the CPU Cable both aren't long enough, I had to buy an extension.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro OEM (64-bit)  ($169.00 @ shopRBC)
Total: $1279.93

ummm... Hi,

I thought the best way of integrating with the PC people around here, why not show my build off?

Here the specs:

CPU: i5 4670k

MOBO: ASROCK Extreme 4

GPU AMD (Sapphire) R9 290 Vapor X, Tri X Version

RAM Some generic RAM... 8GB

STORAGE: Samsung 840 250GB

A HDD that I don't know the make of. (1TB)

Display: 3* BenQ GL2450 Monitors and 1 Toshiba TV.

Sound: AKG K702s and LG ht902tb

PSU: OCZ 750PSU (Not recommended)

Case: ThermalTAKE A31 Chaser Case (something they made themselves XD)

peripherals:

G27 Steering Wheel

Official MS 2010 Keyboard (I don't use it much for gaming)

Logitech G300 Mouse

Logitech Webcam (You can use it as a TrackIR)

Sorry about the rather low quality pictures. This one below is an old picture when I didn't even have the same settings on the TV and monitor (in terms of temperature)

Wires are the overall issue. Ill try and get some high quality pics for tomorrow. The last few were the ones I just took and seem to be far better quality. The case has no cable management so wires end up being stuffed around the area you can't see.

I tend to play games like ETS 2, P Cars and Assetto Corsa, which is the reason why I went out to get a G27 lol. The TV can be used as another monitor, and can put widgets there for when I'm playing some games

Ill be adding more pics tomorrow in excellent quality (hopefully)

So my brother came to me like... Yo! I want an uber faster wow pc that can play any-fuckin-thing!!!!! AGHHRRR!!!!!

...and I was like... What resolution are you playing at? ...and he was like... what is dat? 0.o ...and I was like... ok ok... what games do you wanna play? ...and he is like... You know... some Age of Empires 3, some GTA IV with that russian dude, some assassin's creed and stuff... And I was like.. Age of Empires 3? Now you need something ultra-uber-fast-wowowowowow-machine...

So I went on and actually got some parts that I found more than enough to play those games including the latest version of AC. Here is a picture of the parts chosen.

pc4bro.jpg

Now, I am going to get a lot of hate for not going for either the fx 6300 from red team fans or going for a locked i3 that has hyper-threading. But with the 212 evo.. let me tell you. I was able to get a stable 4.8 Ghz clock speed, and lemmie tell you something else, for the price, I've never used something as good and capable. While I will be benchmarking the hell out of this system I want to tell you right from the start that I am working around finding fixes for the problems found in GTA V and FarCry 4 using this CPU.

Before any of that stuff tho, I will just share with you some glam-shots of the system in it's full glory while I ask your apologies for the quality, my brothers yellowish-orangish-colored lights in his room dont make it easy on me. In any case, it is a thing of beauty and the window on the 100r makes the whole thing pop and it feels quite more premium than it acutally is.

For anyone looking into gaming at 1080p I cannot recomment this enough! It's awesome, If you have a bit of a higher budget than my brother's, add an ssd.. It's going to make everything so much faster, and In fact I will probably be giving one of my ssd's to my brother, just not yet! And if you have some cash around get yourself and i5 4690k. Framerates are very good and If you just wanna game and not do something spectacularly demanding this is the best choice on the market right now hands down.

Btw I didn't look too much into what team red has to offer, and I really don't, so please don't hate. Even the GPU is green... Do you know why? Well.. actually it's because It was the only 960 I found in stock.

mamansabo..lol.jpg

That's all for now! I'm gonna hop outta here... for now! Expect extended benchmarks and some overclock on the 960. So follow the topic to be sure to catch that! Better quality shots soon too!

So my first "gaming rig" was okay it was bad at best but did what i needed it played games specs below.

Old PC:

CIT Mars Case

AMD FX-4100 3.60GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6670
4GB HP RAM
MSI 760G-P43
2TB Hard Drive
Creative Sound Card

Xigmatek Loki Dual Fan CPU Cooler

When i got my first job in October 2014 i decided it was time to use my first pay check to buy a new PC, first i looked at pre built ones and PC building sites like PC Specilaist but in the end decided just to go with pars after all i know how to build PC's.

Using Ebuyer i order a lot of parts next day delivery, here is what i ordered:

First Order

Crucial BLT2CP4G3D1608DT1TX0CEU 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Ballistix Tactical Memory Kit CL8 (8-8-8-24) 1.5V Corsair Carbide 300R Case Corsair CX 500W Fully Wired 80+ Bronze Power Supply MSI GTX 970 GAMING Twin Frozr V 4GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 2.5inch SSD Intel Core i5 4690 3.50GHz Socket 1150 6MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor EXDISPLAY MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Socket 1150 HDMI D-Sub DVI 8-Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

(This was sent back as it didnt work this was possibly a compatability issue though)

But it took 1 week for ebuyer to agree to return it it took another 2 weeks to put through my new order and another week to get sent to me for next day delivery -_-

So below is the parts i order in exchange for my return as you can see i switched back to AMD in a effort to save money.

Current PC:

Antec GX 700 ATX Gaming Case
8GB 1866MHz DDR3 HyperX Fury White Series
Thermaltake Smart SE 630W Semi Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply
AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ 16MB Cache Processor
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 Motherboard
Sapphire R9 290 VAPOR-X OC 4GB GDDR5
Kingston 120GB V300 2.5inch SSD
Xigmatek Loki Dual Fan CPU Cooler

sgdfsggfs_zps2irlp6li.jpg

fsgsfgsdf_zpsj5qsqnbk.jpg

sdfsd_zpsgnxr5zt0.jpg

(When this pc arrived i found my graphics card was to long that was my fault i didnt double check the sizes (*always double check kids.) so i took a hammer and dented the drive cages to fit the card then after my burn in test i got tin snips and cut away the broken cages leaving 3 which is all i need.(i have order a dermal drill to clean this up so i can expand to a water cooling loop with out risk or catching a tube on a jagged edge.)then i did the usual cable managment and installed some extra fans to fill all fan spots.)

Future Upgrades:

Zen CPU

R9 Fury GPU

Custom Water Cooling Loop

Custom Window Side Panel

LED Lighting

Mount SSD behind mother board tray in the side panel

set up a 3 HDD raid Config

I will be doing other mods to like for example coming up soon ill be doing a headphone mod (soon as i can figure out how to open my samson rh600)

(if a mod could shrink my images to that be great so there not so in your face taking up room cheers)

This is my build that took me a few months to do due to time restraints. Was actually only a few saturdays worth of work in the end. Put a Dan Woods Pc Mods sticker on just to get my mates page some Rep before i started my own.

There is no build thread for it cause I was slack. I have a build coming up in a stacked Core X2 and i will start a build thread for that here and on www.facebook.com/castlemods

Love these cases to work with. they are tight with all this gear in there even though they start of so big but I guess I just need to go higher with them then dont I.

In a few months I will be looking at updating this case with a complete overhaul and adding in another Core X9 to add some more watercooling gear.

The Thermaltake Core X9 build named "Code Red"
Specs:
Intel i5 4690k
Avexir Blitz 16GB
Asus Maximus VII Formula
Asus R9 290 x 2
Corsair AX1200

Hello ladies, gentlemen, and everything in between! So, I've been noticing some issues with my current GPU, my R9 280. Issues like artifcating, very high heat output, not getting the performance that I want. So, I've decided to upgrade. I've chosen to upgrade to a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970. If I don't lapse and spend too much money, otherwise I'll get the ASUS Strix GTX 970. I currently have $175 of the $250-$280 I need for the card. I get paid the 29th of next month, so that's when I'll order it. Here I will document benchmarks as well as unboxings and pictures of the card and finished system, and temps. Currently the only thing I have to show is my R9 280 benchmarks. If you want me to add a certain game to the testing, let me know. And if you want to be tagged in future updates, let me know. Have a good day.

Alienware Area 51 Triad.

OK guys, the hype train has been stuffed with coal and they're just firing up the engines...

Yesterday was yearly update day. I thought long and hard about what I wanted and after rebuilding my Area 51 ALX (2009) for my wife I really missed my Alienwares. Specifically my original green bogey, but that's irreplaceable now really. So what to do? go with two new GPUs? or get something else? I decided on this.

alienware-area-51-3-54c90ab5d3cc4_zpssmp

For me it's got it all. I was a huge fan of the HP Blackbird (Voodoo DNA, they designed it) but that is not available here in the UK at all so that was out of the question. I already have a pretty brutal 3970x rig but I just really wanted to change case and there's nothing I really like.

So I ordered the Alienware. Here is my order.

order2_zpsci4vzhkj.jpg

It will probably be about as quick as what I have now. The main difference will be that when I overclock the Alienware it should edge ahead. But that's not the main reason I did this. Basically I spent £3500 on a PC last year, only to find that when you need warranty these companies you buy from are real pissers. I sent my board back to MSI five weeks ago and they told me last week that they did not have the board to replace mine with. What shittery is this?!?!?! in the end I settled with them on a GTX 970 4G gaming that I will sell on.

So what's the idea? well, I intend to take the best parts of my old rig from last year and add them to the Alienware to make one kick ass rig. The nice part is that the Alienware is under Dell's next business day guarantee, so if it goes wrong it's fixed in hours not months.

So. I won't be modding this as such. It's just far too expensive an item for me to cut up. However I will be adding -

Two of these.

Tblack_zpsafabgqd8.jpg

As I have decided to drop my games to 1440p instead of chasing the 4k dragon. I also have one of these and tbh? it's marvellous.

RAIDR_zpszdlatjm7.jpg

And a 600gb one of these to store games.

RAPTOR_zps6zixmxc4.jpg

Other things. It'll all be small stuff tbh. I've ordered two of these for the naked DDR4

SPREADER_zpsnl09340a.jpg

And I will probably make a custom name plate or something for the case :)

Updates to follow..

Project: I AM IRON MAN

So It's time for my annual build. I actually got started a couple of weeks ago, but now that I have enough content it's time to post.

The theme of this build is Iron man as you can guess. Here we can see victim.

DHKuJ0j.jpg

This build will be based on the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv MAtx build for 2 reasons. Reason one, the Full ATX version of the case is huge, and this case will have to come with me when I travel. Reason 2 is the Mini ITX version of the case is made out of Steel.

First Step is to strip all that sweet sweet aluminium off the case. The easy panels came off first.

ysk3MF0.jpg

Now the Feet, You have to remove the rubber as well.

4s4LuaO.jpg

Hinges and window removed

P0ZLfAC.jpg

Hinges and buttons removed

Finally got the last 2 panels stripped down as well. The whole case is just covered in this super solid Aluminium.

Packages started arriving soon after. Corsair 850i Platinum fully modular power supply. Gotta love Dat Power.

Mounted... Reservoir has come to play as well!

I skipped a few steps for this, but I added 2 bulkheads to the case that will pass through liquid to the pump, which will be mounted below the floor of the case.

Test fitting the radiators... I don't have the final fans at this point, but I want to keep working. I love the look of the cherry red rads with the gold fittings... because you know... Iron Man...

Pass through and a sneak peek of the plexi floor that's roughed out...

Better view of the rough floor. Time to round it out.

A little blurry, but it's too late to go back and re-take it.

This fricking bend took 4 pieces of tubing, my wife's assistance, slightly burnt fingers, and a pair of vicegrips to get in place... Totally worth it.

Slightly blurry shot of the front fans... EK Vardar fans will be on all 4 slots controlled by a PWM header on the motherboard.

And an even blurrier shot of the top rad. (I need to stop working late into the night if I'm going to take photos)

Testing Pump location. Looks like it's going to fit. I just need to get some new parts and do something about that cable...

Pump disassembled for parts that are in the mail...

So future plans... All that Aluminium was stripped off for a reason. It's all off at the Anodizer's place. When it comes back it's going to be a very different color. I have new parts for the pump coming, scheduled to arrive today, as well as a few more parts. This whole build will be liquid cooled, and will be running on Skylake with a 980Ti.

Thanks for checking it out and I love to hear comments.

I'm updating the front panel making it from metal now and adding a new powerbutton: http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/media/image/71263.jpg

i'm remaking the panel around the cooler also and changing the finish on all the parts to a more glossy one.

Tomorrow my led strip should come in and I'll be able to add some nice white lighting all around as well.

I added some in progress pictures this time to show how much handwork I do, no cnc for me :(

Black Widow 2.0 Build Log

Here is my build log for my "new" system. I am retiring my current PC (not the one in my sig, that's already updated to my new one lol) since the aged FX 8120 is a bottleneck for my 980. New features of BW 2.0 includes: A case window, LED strips, and an improved color scheme (1.0 came out Black and Blue somehow). Specs of BW2 is in my sig, since I'm too lazy to put them in here.

It still isn't done yet as I still need to get the 4790K, which I will be getting sometime today.

If you want to see what my old build looked like, you can stalk my instagram (https://instagram.com/hypnodog).

So far I have gotten the Maximus VII Hero and the 750D (all I need is the CPU since the rest are being reused, I'm not that rich, lol). I have no photos of the 750D, but I will go ahead and include a pic of the mobo:
